Patna, Jul 20: In a tragic incident, a first-year MBBS student of AIIMS Patna was found dead inside his hostel room on Saturday afternoon, raising concerns among students and authorities.

The deceased has been identified as Yadavendra Shahu, a native of Odisha. According to officials, the matter came to light when the student’s room remained locked well into the day and his mobile phone kept ringing unanswered.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Phulwari Sharif, Sushil Kumar, confirmed that the local police received a call around 1 pm. “The room was opened in the presence of AIIMS officials and a magistrate. The student was found lying lifeless on the bed,” he said.

A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the spot to gather evidence. Police have begun probing all possible angles — including foul play, suicide, or a possible medical emergency.

“We are investigating. A post-mortem will determine the exact cause of death. The student’s family has been informed,” SDPO Kumar added.

Meanwhile, in another shocking development earlier in the day, retired Health Department official Dr Tapeshwar Prasad was critically injured in a targeted shooting in Bihar. He was attacked by three unidentified assailants on a bike while returning from his agricultural field.

Dr Prasad sustained a gunshot wound to the jaw and was rushed to a local hospital before being referred to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College in Gaya. His condition remains critical.

Both incidents have sent shockwaves across the state, prompting calls for enhanced safety and swift investigations.
